· Rhinoplasty technique

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic nose surgery operation. It involves reshaping or reconstructing a nose.

Several causes can lead patients to resort to this operation. For aesthetic reasons. If you don't like the shape of your nose, whether you have a hooked, aquiline, upturned, flat or snub nose, you can resort to such an operation. But rhinoplasty can also correct more serious aesthetic anomalies, such as a congenital anomaly. In addition, in certain cases, a rhinoplasty can be performed on a patient who, following an accident or ablation, wishes to have a nose reconstructed. Heavier, it allows real well-being to be regained for the patient. We will talk more about reconstructive rhinoplasty.

Whatever the reason for wanting to have rhinoplasty, it is a radical and definitive solution to correct aesthetic anomalies of the nose and harmonize facial features and you should think carefully before making a decision.

· Are there different types of rhinoplasty?

Yes, there are several types of rhinoplasty, each meeting specific needs and suitable for different situations. Here is an explanation of the main categories:

  1. Cosmetic Rhinoplasty : This form of rhinoplasty aims to improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose, by modifying its shape, size or proportions to better harmonize with other facial features.

  2. Restorative or reconstructive rhinoplasty : It is performed to correct deformities caused by accidents, congenital malformations or previous operations. This approach can restore the functionality as well as the appearance of the nose.

  3. Primary Rhinoplasty : This is a procedure performed on a nose that has never been operated on before. This is often the standard form of rhinoplasty.

  4. Secondary, tertiary, quaternary or more rhinoplasty : These procedures are performed on noses that have already been operated on one or more times. They are more complex due to previous structural changes and internal scarring.

  5. Tip Rhinoplasty : This type of rhinoplasty focuses solely on modifying the tip of the nose, often to refine or redefine its shape.

  6. Ethnic Rhinoplasty : Tailored to treat specific characteristics associated with different ethnicities, this rhinoplasty takes into account distinctive features like nasal structure, skin texture and other genetic factors.

  7. Medical Rhinoplasty : Performed without surgery, this method uses filler injections to make small adjustments to the nose, often for minor cosmetic changes.

Each type of rhinoplasty has its specificities and requires particular expertise to guarantee the best results, both aesthetically and functionally.

· How does the intervention take place?

Pre-operative consultation with Dr Jacques Berthier:
The first step towards your new appearance begins with a consultation with Dr. Jacques Berthier, our expert in head and neck and facial restorative surgery. During this meeting, you will be able to discuss your aesthetic goals and Dr. Berthier will perform a complete evaluation to ensure that you are a good candidate for surgery.

The day of the operation:
Dr. Berthier performs rhinoplasty with precision and care. It begins with small incisions inside or outside the nose to access the nasal structure.

Depending on the needs identified during your consultation, he can:

  • Reduce a prominent bump.

  • Modify the tip of the nose to raise or stretch it.

  • Refine the tip for improved facial harmony.

  • Reduce the overall dimensions of a nose that is too wide or too long.

  • Correct a deviation to improve respiratory function.

  • Reconstruct the entire nose, including tissues, mucous membranes, and bony structures.

  • Perform an ethnic rhinoplasty, adjusting the nose in a way that respects and enhances ethnic features.

Post-operative follow-up at Capital Care:
After surgery, Dr. Berthier will ensure that your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. You will need to wear a cast or splint to protect the nose while the tissue heals. It is normal to experience some swelling and bruising which will subside over time. A slight loss of smell and taste may occur temporarily. Return to normal activities is often possible around 10 days after the operation, with the approval of Dr. Berthier.

· What are the results of rhinoplasty?

Results are visible immediately after surgery, but the final appearance becomes more apparent about a month later when the swelling begins to go down.

For optimal results, the complete healing period may vary depending on the complexity of the operation and the individual reaction of each patient.

On average, you have to wait 6 months to a year to see the final result of a rhinoplasty, during which time the nose stabilizes and the tissues heal completely.

· What are the side effects of rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is generally well tolerated. A moderate feeling of discomfort may be felt after the operation, similar to that of a minor surgical procedure. Reactions such as light bleeding or the formation of small crusts inside the nose are possible, indicating the beginning of the healing process.

For patients with sensitive skin or in cases of more pronounced discomfort, pain medications or specific post-operative care may be prescribed to ensure your comfort.

After surgery, some patients report a feeling of swelling or mild tenderness, similar to that of a sunburn, which usually subsides after a few days. The natural healing process then takes over, with a very low risk of permanent scarring, thanks to the precision and care taken during the procedure.

It is essential that this procedure is carried out by a qualified professional like Dr Jacques Berthier, guaranteeing not only the effectiveness of the intervention but also the safety and well-being of the patient.
